At the end of April, I traveled to Chicago to encounter a series of organizations, parish groups, and associations, who work in prison ministry, re-entry, and restorative justice.
At the beginning of May, Cecilia Tresoldi had the opportunity to travel to Bucharest, Romania, where I met our colleagues from FDP – Protagonisti in Educatie, as well as the Ukrainian refugees and local host families they serve.
The success of the PRM-funded ASET project in Ninewa and Duhok is a testament to the importance of investing in the resilience and recovery of conflict-affected communities. By providing targeted interventions and support, the project has helped individuals to build better livelihoods, improve their income, and contribute to the wider economy. The examples of Mohammed Tahir and Wissam Youhanna in Ninewa and Abdulsalam Ahmad and Ibrahim Salih in Duhok highlight the transformative impact of the program, and provide hope for the future of these regions.

Members of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) were in Brazil this month and learned about some of the activities of the project Welcomed through work – implemented by AVSI Brasil, with support from AVSI Foundation, and fully financed by PRM.

The USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance funded Graduating to Resilience Activity held a two-hour virtual learning event on the 13th of April 2023: “Transitioning from Graduation to Resilience.” The event was part of USAID’s Agency Learning and Evidence Month, where the 7-year livelihoods program presented learnings from its first cohort of implementation to an audience of about 160+ virtual participants following invitations to a wider cross-section of partners in the Uganda Government, nonprofit, multilateral, and private sectors.
