The “Second chance” for women inmates in Ecuador

The project seeks to provide a “second chance” in society for women deprived of liberty by reducing the digital gap, increasing their income potential, gaining their peers’ and family’s respect, and delivering training and education on IT skills, entrepreneurship, and business models.

FDP’s work in Romania since 2022

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, AVSI-USA has been working closely with local groups in Ukraine, Poland, and Romania to assist Ukrainian refugees. One of AVSI-USA’s long-term partners is FDP – Protagonists in Education, a Romanian organization whose mission is to promote the human dignity and social inclusion of vulnerable people. Since the beginning of the war, the FDP has been offering direct assistance to Ukrainian refugees who have fled to Romania. The organization puts special emphasis on providing social and educational programs to single Ukrainian women with children who have resettled in Bucharest indefinitely, having lost everything due to the ongoing conflict.

2 years of accompanying Ukrainians

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine (February 24, 2022), millions of people have left their homes to escape the bombing and found shelter in safer areas within their own country or abroad. AVSI immediately took action to help them.

This year, the AVSI-USA team wanted to give our friends and their communities a glimpse into our work and break down the distance we often feel between our lives and those we work for who live in some of the most challenging places around the world. Annalisa Costanzo, Program Manager in Haiti, accepted our invitation to join us and share her witness on our Annual Campaign: Give Peace a Face. Friends in Miami, Chicago, Denver, and Washington, DC, opened their homes and hearts to listen to Annalisa’s dramatic and personal story of giving peace a face, AVSI’s work in Haiti, and the need for more donor support.

Planting seeds of hope that not only bloom to make them beautiful human beings, but inspire them to spread seeds of peace wherever life takes them.

Judaea’s story: A Haitian woman changing the narrative

Judaea is one of thousands of people suffering from the negative fallout of armed conflicts between rival gangs in Haiti. AVSI, through the Consortium with GOAL, CESVI, and BHA/USAID, activated a humanitarian emergency project to meet the multi-sectoral essential needs of affected people in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.

The importance of dreams and empathy

At the beginning of May, Cecilia Tresoldi had the opportunity to travel to Bucharest, Romania, where I met our colleagues from FDP – Protagonisti in Educatie, as well as the Ukrainian refugees and local host families they serve.
