Welcomed Through Work, Brazil with funding from the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM)
Over the past 4 years, AVSI-USA has been supporting the work of our long-term partners in Uganda, the Luigi Giussani Institute of Higher Education (LGIHE). Our collaboration has focused on using the momentum inherent in high stakes examinations to increase the quality of education. LGIHE has had success by developing close collaborative relationships with key branches of Ugandan Ministry of Education to advance reforms in the Ugandan education system aimed at increasing the measurement of higher order thinking (HOT) skills in the examinations and the effective teaching of these skills in Ugandan classrooms. This project has been the focus of two case studies just published by independent researchers from Notre Dame’s Pulte Institute for Global Development and listed below:
Womens’ Income Generating Support (WINGS) project, northern Uganda, Evaluation by IPA
Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), 2004-2010 in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya
Early Childhood Development program evaluation, Ecuador
CRECEMOS program evaluation, Mexico
Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS, Uganda
Cities Alliance Case Study on Integrated Urban Slum Upgrading, Brazil
