Iraq
AVSI has been in Iraq since 1991, responding to emergencies, supporting displaced families, and helping communities recover from years of conflict and instability. Since 2014, our work has focused on Iraqi Kurdistan, fostering socio-economic resilience and social cohesion among returnees, refugees, and host populations through livelihood support, vocational training, and small business initiatives. AVSI has also walked alongside the Yazidi community, offering opportunities for recovery and empowerment after the 2014 genocide, including innovative agricultural projects and education programs for displaced children. Today, we continue to rebuild livelihoods, renovate schools, and create pathways to stability and dignity for families affected by war and displacement.
