“Before the library, we hardly had books at home, and reading felt out of reach. Now, we share stories, laugh together, and watch our daughter grow with confidence and curiosity. It has brought us closer and given our family a space to truly connect and cherish each moment together.”
Claudia Avendaño
Beneficiary of our partner in Mexico, Crecemos
“Restarting our programs in Northwest Haiti has shown me the incredible strength of the families we serve. Clinics are reopening, children are receiving treatment, and communities are coming together to support one another. Every step forward reminds me why staying present and committed makes a real difference in people’s lives.”
Marie L’Hermine
AVSI staff member based in Haiti
“Through COWA, I learned not just technical skills but also confidence and leadership. Today, I run a thriving coffee shop and mentor other young people in my community. AVSI-USA’s support gave me a chance to turn my ideas into reality and show that, even in challenging circumstances, we can build a better future together.”
Mercy
Beneficiary of AVSI-USA’s partner in Uganda, COWA
“When I came to My Father’s House, I was unemployed and unsure of my future. With guidance on resumes, interviews, and referrals, I not only found a job but quickly grew into a leadership role. AVSI-USA’s support gave me more than work—it restored my dignity, built my confidence, and helped me reclaim my purpose. Today, I’m not just employed; I’m thriving and helping others see that second chances are possible.”
Vance
Beneficiary of AVSI-USA’s partner in the United States, My Father’s House (within RFI)
“Before WINGS+, I didn’t know how I could support my family or imagine a better life. The training gave me not only tailoring and business skills but also the confidence to start my own business. Today, I earn an income, provide for my siblings, and even hope to hire others in my community. AVSI-USA’s support showed me that with the right tools, young people like me can turn challenges into opportunities and shape our own futures.”
Zagabe Safi
Beneficiary of AVSI-USA’s Project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, WINGS+ for Congolese Youth
